- API style
- REST/JSON on the Trimble App Xchange platform. Reads are GETs against a cache; writes are POSTed actions such as add, replace, upsert and post.
- Authentication
- An API key in the X-Application-Key header over HTTPS. Keys come through your Trimble sales representative; third-party vendors get their own scoped key from the customer.
- Sandbox / developer program
- Trimble says you can purchase and connect a test environment to your Vista test instance. No free developer program.
- Webhooks / events
- None in the API docs. Through App Xchange flows, creates, updates and deletes detected in the cache can trigger integration flows.
- Rate limits
- 2,000 requests per minute per API key (rolling 60 seconds, subject to change); 429 with Retry-After when exceeded. Multi-record GETs return up to 1,000 records with continuation tokens.
- Exports and files
- Attachments download through a cache-file action that returns a download URL.
- Marketplace / partner program
- Trimble App Xchange.

Notes and gotchas
- Reads come from the App Xchange cache, synced by an agent on the Vista database server typically every hour, so a GET can be stale.
- Writes are queued actions: store the action ID, poll for the result, and route failures (closed job, invalid phase, inactive vendor) to a person.
- Trimble's eligibility docs name cloud-hosted Vista on Trimble Construction One; on-premises customers should confirm with Trimble what their license allows, or use another route (database views, an App Xchange agent, or files) — confirm in discovery. The API is a paid add-on.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Vista API real-time?
Writes run as actions against Vista, but reads come from the App Xchange cache, which is typically refreshed hourly. Design reports and reconciliations around that lag.
Can on-premises Vista use the Vista API?
Trimble's eligibility docs name cloud-hosted Vista on Trimble Construction One; on-premises customers should confirm with Trimble what their license allows, or use another route (database views, an App Xchange agent, or files) — confirm in discovery. Trimble's eligibility statement names Trimble Construction One cloud-hosted Vista customers; its setup guide also mentions on-premises customers granting SQL roles themselves, so ask Trimble what your license allows.
What is the Vista API rate limit?
Trimble documents 2,000 requests per minute per API key on a rolling 60-second window, subject to change.
