- API style
- Planner premium plans (formerly Project for the web): Dataverse Web API plus Project schedule APIs that write through operation sets. Desktop Project: MPP and Project XML (MSPDI) files.
- Authentication
- Microsoft Entra ID to Dataverse. Microsoft states only users with a Project license can call the schedule APIs; application, system and integration users can't.
- Sandbox / developer program
- Microsoft lets customers with five or more licenses deploy to Power Platform production and sandbox environments. No dedicated developer program confirmed.
- Webhooks / events
- Not confirmed for the schedule APIs. Power Automate cloud flows with the Dataverse connector are documented.
- Rate limits
- Schedule APIs: 200 operations per operation set and 10 open operation sets per user. Project boundaries include 3,000 tasks per project and 150 resources per project.
- Exports and files
- MPP (default) and Project XML Data Interchange (MSPDI); XML import can create a new project, append, or merge (merge overwrites tasks with the same UniqueID).
- Marketplace / partner program
- Microsoft AppSource. Not confirmed for Project specifically.

Notes and gotchas
- Project Online is past its retirement date (September 30, 2026); don't start new Project Online integrations.
- Dependencies and resource assignments can't be updated through the schedule APIs, only deleted and recreated, and writes go through operation sets.
- The schedule APIs reject application users, so a service principal can't write schedules on its own.

Frequently asked questions
Is Microsoft Project Online retired?
Yes. Microsoft's lifecycle page lists Project Online's retirement date as September 30, 2026. Project for the web capabilities continue in Microsoft Planner.
How do I integrate with Planner premium plans?
Plans live in Dataverse. Reads use the Dataverse Web API; writes to tasks, dependencies and assignments go through Microsoft's Project schedule APIs and operation sets, called as a Project-licensed user.
Can I get Microsoft Project schedules into reporting without an API?
Yes. Desktop Project saves to Project XML (MSPDI), which is straightforward to parse into a reporting model next to cost data.
